Our 1st Annual Scotty Rescue Reunion and Picnic

Hot Dog Dunk
The 18th of September was our 1st Annual Scotty Rescue Reunion and Picnic and I think it was a huge success. We had several of our applicants come down and check us out as well as about a dozen rescued Scotties and their families. Of course, I had invited all of my neighbors and suggested that they either come over and have a hamburger with us or leave the area for the afternoon as the Scotties might get loud.

Susan Morris came up with her agility class and brought her Scotty, "Bailey" and one other Schnauzer to give the demonstration. What a joy it was to see a Scotty "under control" and actually doing agility. This is something that I would love to see more of us get involved in, in the future with our Scotties. After their talk and demonstrations, they allowed all of us to take our dogs through the course and ask them for any guidance that might be needed.

Linda Thompson had chosen about 5 games to play. Well, everyone enjoyed the first game so much that I think they played it 4 or 5 times. Lunch and conversation was the next thing on the agenda. It was really nice to see everyone and their dogs all having such a good time. We did have lots of drawings throughout the day for door prizes of which I did not win one thing.

To look over the dogs you were hard pressed to figure out which were the rescue dogs and which were the ones that had been raised all along by their owners. All the dogs really seemed to get along great and really seemed to have a good time. Harry and Florence were in charge of Judging all of the dogs for the best tail, who came the farthest, etc. Of course our newest rescue that had been flown to us from Florida the Friday before got the certificate for "coming the farthest" and being the "friendliest". Mr. Spock has since gone to his "forever home".

Next year, my only hope would be to get even more people out for this event as it is really fun. We again took donations at this event for the Katrina animals and have passed that money on to those in need. Thank you to everyone for your caring support.

As the last dog left, Jan and I paused and thought, all of these rescued dogs are certainly happy with their new families and all seem like they have adjusted very well. It really makes all of the effort that our group has put into this all worthwhile.
